Paul Chapman joins the Bombers

Paul ChapmanPAUL Chapman has signed a deal to join the Essendon Football Club, a move that re-unites him with Mark Thompson who was at one time his coach at Geelong. It is understood that it is a one year deal with a number of incentives that could trigger a contract for a second year.

The news comes on the same day that another former Cat, James Podsiadly, had signed on for next season with the Adelaide Crows.

Chapman, 31, played 251 games for Geelong after being drafted by the club with the 31st selection of the 1999 National Draft.  But after 14 seasons the midfielder became an unrestricted free agent that the Cats had no interest in re-signing.

While Chappy had also been linked to Richmond, Hawthorn and Carlton during the trade period, Essendon had firmed as the likely landing spot over the last week.

More to come.
